Kapit: A land of Serenity

I just came back from Kapit 2 days ago.

I went there for relieving, for a very short period - 5 days 4 nights. Stayed in hospital staff quarters (the conventional wooden house) with a housemate. She is there relieving for 2 weeks in Hospital Kapit. I am grateful to be blessed with a kind-hearted and caring companion.

Departed from Sibu at around 7.30am in the morning by bus, reached Kapit at 10.30am. Only recent years, Kapit is accessible by road. Previously people use to travel to Kapit by boat. The road is not bad, a bit roller coaster though due to the hilly landscape. I passed by Kanowit and Song before reaching Kapit.

Kapit is filled with fresh and cool air in the morning,
It has a slower pace of life,
Friendly atmosphere and people,
And everywhere is within walking distance.

I started off my work there with dabai - a black olive, uniquely found only in Sarawak. They told me it was nice and the nurses managed to made me tried one. However, I can't appreciate the tastiness of dabai because I am not a fan of it. Also, I got to know that you can actually eat the dabai seeds as well.

I had 3 days of durian eating marathon which made me wonder if I was there for relieving or weight gaining programme. The durian there is nicer than those I got in Sibu. As for the food here, simply delicious. It fits well with my taste buds.

Thank God that all the obstetrics and gynecological patients were relatively well and stable there during my visit. Overall, I will say that it was a good and eye-opening experience. In term of patient's management, I need to take into consideration of their logistic issues and the limitation. I feel pity for the patients there, most of the time they need to travel for 3 hours to get the access for certain healthcare facilities in Sibu Hospital.

My first visit to Kapit was in 2014, that time I didn't managed to enjoy anything because I had a very bad food poisoning back then. Lastly, I made some new friends there. During the last day after church, my housemate and church friends brought me to have a walk around Kapit. You only need a few hours to explore around as it is a small town. The only place that I didn't manage to go is the Kapit wharf. Perhaps, next round!

What a short getaway from the hustle and bustle of my routine daily life. Thank you for the hospitality & fellowship, till then!

Still find this wooden house unique, hence, it deserves a shot!

The bustling Teresang market, rich with durian and dabai.
